Good Morning! It's my first Top 10 Tuesday with Oh Amanda and I figured I would start with something I am really comfortable with...
Music.
I remember at the age of 10 or 11 memorizing every word to Amy Grant's Heart In Motion album. I also remember when I got my first DC Talk tape, you know...back when they did rap :) I also remember the first time I discovered the Christian dance group, Raze. (Has anyone else ever heard of them?) Oh and that Newsboys tape that had "Shine?" Epic. I think I even choreographed a dance routine to that song.
Music has always been a defining part of my life and for as long as I can remember, I have needed to listen to music. It brings me closer to God. It is my heart language. While it was very hard to narrow down to 10, I'm happy with this list. Here goes! (In no particular order...)
10. Audio Adrenaline, "Big House"
9. Rebecca St. James song, "God"
8. Raze "All Around the World"
7. DC Talk "Jesus Freak"
6. Newsboys "Shine" "Breakfast"
5. Vineyard worship music "Father, you're all I need" "There's no one like our God"
4. Misty Edwards, "Simple Devotion"
3. Point of Grace "You are lord of life, love, and other mysteries"
2. Jars of Clay "Flood" "Faith Like a Child" Basically everything on their debut album
1. Steven Curtis Chapman "King of the Jungle"

What other songs would you add to the list? Happy Tuesday!
Christina

Ahhh, you and I are friends!! Yes, to the dcTalk tapes. And now I'm remembering the Audio Adrenaline/dcTalk tour. I miss early 90's Christian music!
ReplyDelete:)
I'm with Amanda, we're sure to be fast friends! dcTalk was definitely my favorite!! I still listen to them every once in awhile!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to hit up i-tunes to hear some of these songs/groups. I grew up in a very fundamentalist church/family and was not allowed to listen to any mainstream Christian groups as a teenager. Now I'm wondering what I missed?
ReplyDeleteHoly cow. The memories. As a musician, many of these artists have played a defining role in my own work.
ReplyDeleteRebecca St. James was hero.
I'd add a little old school Third Day...
Okay...I'm gonna go pull up my iTunes and be back with more this afternoon!
Yes! There was nothing like it! Thanks for reading and for hosting such a fun link-up!
ReplyDeleteYes! They were so great. It just isn't the same without them :) Thanks for reading and following me on Twitter!
ReplyDeleteOh Beth! What a tragedy! No music? Well now's the time, girl. Live it up! You are still beautiful anyway so no worries :)
ReplyDeleteYes! Isn't it crazy how we as musicians have so many memories associated with music? or the concerts we went to?
ReplyDeleteAh, Third Day. Forgot about them! My hubby is a big fan and even tried to sound like Mac Powell in his Christian high school Rock band. Can't wait to hear more of your ideas! Isn't this fun? Making me so nostalgic...
Haha! I've been to 7 Third Day shows and even got to work back stage at a few - worked for a few years at a local Christian radio station.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are constantly bursting out into old school DC Talk or Audio A songs. So good!
ReplyDeleteYes!! And don't you remember the hand motions to "Big House?" I do! It was a youth group staple! Thanks for reading!
ReplyDeleteAh, Heavenbound is playing in my head!!! Do you remember White Cross and their song "Walk with Me?" I found it on youtube last year (it was my go to song during all of my emotional lows in high school!) and it continues to be one of my favorite songs of all time!!! Love the idea of my Father God walking with me...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great reminder!!!
Nope...was never a White Cross fan :) But glad that song meant a lot to you! Songs are so powerful in our walk with the Lord. Thanks for walking down memory lane with me!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, talk about bringing me back to high school :) Great list!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes I totally enjoyed doing this :) Brought my husband back to the "good old days" Thanks for reading!
ReplyDeleteI love that your "back-in-the-day" music is the same as mine {Amy Grant, DC Talk, and Newsboys} adding to that...{Twila Paris, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith...and probably more!}
ReplyDeleteGood memories!
